Ben Chai chats with Chris Potter, Partner with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and analyses a Government survey on the state of security of companies within the UK.

The survey, called Information Security Breaches Survey, is carried out every two years and provides more information about how Information security has changed over the past few years.

Chris Potter is a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), based in London. For the last decade, Chris has been auditing financial services clients’ systems.

He qualified as a Certified Information Systems Auditor in 1995. Chris helped develop the PwC approach to systems auditing on the merger between Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand in 1998.

He has increasingly focused on helping companies manage information security, a topic on which he is a frequent public speaker. In 2002, 2004 and 2006, Chris co-authored the DTI Information Security Breaches Survey, and he also lectures on the Royal Holloway, University of London, MSc course on information security management.

He is a founding associate member of the Institute of Information Security Professionals. Chris has helped clients to develop information security frameworks, implement secure Internet access and cryptographic solutions, and gain assurance over their security through penetration testing.

Within PwC, Chris has overall responsibility for the quality of systems auditing work on all UK insurance audits. In this role, he has also led several engagements to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley s404, and advises clients on optimising their internal control.
